Blue Indicating Silica Gel Beads are desiccant beads containing amorphous silicon dioxide (SiO) that have been supplemented with cobalt(II) chloride to give them a color change indication of moisture levels. The beads are deep blue in color when they are dry and turn pink as they absorb moisture, allowing them to be quickly seen at a glance when used. Often utilized in packaging, electronics, pharmaceuticals, and precision instruments, blue pointing to silica gel has high adsorption capacity and can desiccate water vapor up to 30% of its weight. The beads are recyclable once dried at temperatures ranging between 100120C. Although efficient, they should be treated with caution since they contain cobalt(II) chloride, which is a possible toxin controlled in most areas.
