About Water Resistant Silica Gel

Water resistant silica gel is a type of altered traditional silica gel that is specifically adapted to function well under humid environments or brief water exposures. As compared to normal silica gel, which may break down or lose effectiveness upon exposure to liquid water, water resistant silica gel is treated with a water-repelling coating or surface alteration that prevents it from losing its bead shape and moisture adsorption properties. It is white or off-white granules or beads in appearance and is normally applied in industrial, marine, and outdoor packaging where the protection of moisture is essential. Such silica gel continues to pick up water vapor from the air and resist degradation from liquid moisture direct contact. It is chemically inactive, harmless, and safe for application with electronics, machinery, pharmaceuticals, and delicate products. Water resistant silica gel is usually RoHS and REACH compliant and provides consistent performance in difficult environmental conditions.
